Company Overview
PTC Inc. (formerly Parametric Technology Corporation) is an American computer software and services company founded in 1985 and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The company was a pioneer in parametric, associative feature-based, solid computer-aided design (CAD) modeling software in 1988, including an Internet-based product for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in 1998.
PTC offers eight core product families spanning CAD, PLM, IoT, and augmented reality technologies. The company's flagship offerings include Creo (CAD software suite), Windchill (PLM lifecycle intelligence), ThingWorx (industrial IoT platform), and Onshape (cloud-native CAD). Their technology is primarily used by discrete manufacturers to design, operate, and maintain complex products across aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, consumer products, electronics, and high-tech industries.
In 2024, PTC underwent a significant strategic transformation under new CEO Neil Barua, who took the helm in February 2024 after James Heppelmann's 26-year tenure (13 years as CEO). The company announced an agreement with TPG to divest its Kepware industrial connectivity and ThingWorx IoT businesses in November 2025, allowing PTC to focus exclusively on its core CAD, PLM, ALM, and SLM offerings while integrating AI and advancing its SaaS transformation. This strategic pivot represents a shift from broad platform ambition to operational precision, crystallized in the "Barua Blueprint" which emphasizes simplifying the portfolio to focus on PDM, CAD, PLM, and digital thread as pillars of product innovation.
PTC is ranked a leader in each of its technology categories, including PLM, CAD, SLM, IoT, and AR. The company was named the Outright Leader in ABI Research's 2024 Enterprise PLM assessment, scoring highest among competitors including Siemens, Dassault, and Propel. For fiscal year 2025 (ended September 30, 2025), PTC delivered 8.5% ARR growth and 16% cash flow growth, with revenue growing 18% year-over-year on a constant currency basis. The company maintains a strong partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate the growth of its Onshape cloud-native CAD solution and advance AI initiatives including the Onshape AI Advisor running on Amazon Bedrock.
