Company Overview
Mobilize is the leading volunteer engagement and event management platform for nonprofits, advocacy organizations, political campaigns, and labor unions. Founded in May 2017 by Allen Kramer and Alfred Johnson, Mobilize has grown from a grassroots organizing tool into the dominant platform trusted by 3,000+ mission-driven organizations and over 6 million volunteers.
The company was born from the progressive organizing movement, with founders who worked on major presidential campaigns (Hillary Clinton 2016 and Barack Obama 2008) and in the Obama administration. Initially funded by Higher Ground Labs, a progressive technology accelerator, Mobilize raised $3.75 million in Series A funding in January 2020 led by Higher Ground Labs, with participation from Lowercase Capital and Reid Hoffman.
Mobilize's acquisition journey reflects its success and strategic importance in the civic engagement sector. In November 2020, EveryAction (parent company of NGP VAN) acquired Mobilize to enhance its organizing capabilities. Just one year later, in November 2021, Apax Partners acquired EveryAction in a landmark $2 billion deal and created Bonterra, a new subsidiary to oversee the combined portfolio of nonprofit and civic engagement technologies. Today, Mobilize operates as a key product within Bonterra's ecosystem.
The platform's impact is measurable: organizations using Mobilize typically see signup rates double and volunteer no-shows decrease by 30%, while benefiting from 38% more volunteer shifts from the Mobilize network. With features including single-shift and recurring event creation, virtual and in-person event management, automated communications, post-event feedback surveys, and powerful integrations with ActBlue, EveryAction, NGP VAN, and other platforms, Mobilize has become essential infrastructure for volunteer mobilization.
Mobilize's reach extends beyond traditional nonprofits into political organizing, with the platform hosting events for major campaigns including the 2024 Presidential election and April 2025 Hands Off protests. The company's volunteer network of over 6 million engaged supporters represents one of the largest pools of civic engagement in America, with data showing that 45% of event signups come directly from the Mobilize network and conversions increase by 11% when using the platform.
