Kiewit Corporation is one of North America's largest and most respected construction and engineering organizations, founded in 1884 in Omaha, Nebraska. The company is employee-owned and operates across diverse markets including transportation, power, water/wastewater, oil and gas, building, marine, industrial, and mining. Kiewit employs over 27,000 staff and craft employees across 6 continents.
The company was founded as Kiewit Brothers Masonry Contractors by Peter and Andrew Kiewit, whose father John Kiewit emigrated from The Hague in 1857. Peter Kiewit Jr., the founder's youngest son, joined the firm in 1919 and led it from 1924 until his death in 1979, transforming Kiewit into one of the largest construction companies in the world. In 1931, he incorporated the company as Peter Kiewit Sons' Co.
Kiewit reported revenues of approximately $17.1 billion in 2023 and is ranked as the No. 3 contractor by revenue on Engineering News-Record's Top 400 Contractors list. The company secured over $10 billion in new contracts in 2024, with power representing 31% of national revenue, transportation 23%, water 13%, and oil/gas/chemical 10%.
Rick Lanoha serves as CEO, having been appointed in 2020 after serving as president and COO since 2016. Kiewit's four core values are People, Integrity, Excellence, and Stewardship, which guide their business ethics and unique employee-owned culture.
