Haelixa

Haelixa is a Swiss technology company pioneering physical traceability solutions for supply chains through DNA-based markers that enable end-to-end transparency from raw materials to retail. Founded in 2016 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich by PhD researchers Michela Puddu (CEO) and Gediminas Mikutis (CTO), Haelixa has developed a breakthrough forensic-grade authentication technology that physically embeds DNA markers into materials, creating an unalterable fingerprint that stays linked to products throughout their entire journey. This innovation addresses critical challenges in sustainable supply chains, particularly in textiles, precious materials, and luxury goods where verifying claims of organic, recycled, or ethically-sourced materials has historically been difficult.

Unlike digital tracking systems that can be manipulated or disconnected from physical products, Haelixa's DNA markers are physically applied to materials at the source—whether cotton fields, recycling facilities, or mining operations—and remain traceable through washing, processing, manufacturing, and distribution. The markers are engineered to be non-toxic, vegan, and biodegradable, making them safe for ecosystems and suitable for direct contact with textiles and consumer products. Validation is performed through laboratory testing using spectroscopy, providing forensic-grade proof of origin and authenticity that protects brands from counterfeiting and greenwashing.

Haelixa has established partnerships with major players in the textile industry including C&A, Soorty Enterprises, Oerlikon, Damteks, and regenagri, tracking over 30 million garments globally in 2024. The company has raised seed funding from investiere and Zurich Cantonal Bank and has won over 20 international awards since its founding. With headquarters in Zurich and a growing team of 17 employees, Haelixa achieved $1.5 million in revenue in 2024, up from $815,000 in 2023. The company has recently bolstered its leadership with the appointment of Patrick Strumpf as CEO and Stefan Karlen to the Board of Directors, positioning itself for accelerated growth in supply chain transparency, sustainability verification, and brand protection across textiles, precious materials, and beyond.
