Company Overview

EY (Ernst & Young) stands as one of the world's leading professional services organizations, with roots tracing back to 1903 when Alwin C. Ernst and his brother Theodore founded Ernst & Ernst in Cleveland, Ohio. The modern EY emerged from the historic 1989 merger of Ernst & Whinney (third largest accounting firm at the time) with Arthur Young & Co. (sixth largest), creating what was then the world's largest accounting firm with 6,100 partners.

Today, EY operates across more than 700 offices in over 150 countries and territories, employing approximately 393,000 professionals who serve clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 corporations. In 2024, EY reported record annual revenue of $51.2 billion, representing 3.9% growth, solidifying its position as the third-largest of the Big Four professional services firms. The firm is particularly known for its strength in audit and assurance services, which generate the highest proportion of revenue among Big Four peers.

EY's integrated service model spans assurance, consulting, strategy and transactions, and tax services. The firm's consulting capabilities were significantly enhanced through the 2014 acquisition of The Parthenon Group, which was rebranded as EY-Parthenon. Under the leadership of Global Chair and CEO Janet Truncale, who assumed the role in July 2024, EY has made substantial investments in technology and AI, including the launch of the EY.ai Agentic Platform in partnership with NVIDIA.

With its mission of "Building a better working world," EY emphasizes transformational leadership, high-performing teams, and a fit-to-perform culture. The firm has been named to Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2025 and received National Best Workplaces Awards in nine countries. Despite challenges facing the professional services industry, including a notable 10% reduction in workforce over 18 months, EY continues to invest in innovation and maintain its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and professional excellence that has defined the organization since its founding.
