Company Overview
Bright Machines is a software and robotics company transforming manufacturing through intelligent automation. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company combines AI, computer vision, machine learning, and robotics to create flexible automation solutions that enable manufacturers to produce products more efficiently and at higher quality.
The company was co-founded by Amar Hanspal, former co-CEO and Chief Product Officer of Autodesk, who left his position at the $36 billion design software company to build Bright Machines. The founding team recognized that while manufacturing remained largely manual, advances in AI and robotics could finally enable truly intelligent, adaptive automation.
Bright Machines' core offering is a full-stack automation solution that includes both hardware (robotic cells called Microfactories) and software (Brightware, their intelligent software platform). This approach allows manufacturers to quickly deploy and reconfigure automated assembly lines, significantly reducing the time and cost of automation projects compared to traditional approaches.
The company has raised over $400 million in funding, including a $126 million Series C round in June 2024 led by BlackRock with participation from NVIDIA, Microsoft, Eclipse Ventures, and Jabil. Bright Machines specializes in building AI hardware infrastructure, positioning itself at the intersection of the manufacturing automation and artificial intelligence markets.
