Company Overview

Baxter International Inc. is an American multinational healthcare company headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, that has been saving and sustaining lives since 1931. As a leading global medical technology company, Baxter develops, manufactures, and commercializes healthcare products and digital health solutions across acute care, nutritional therapies, renal care, hospital products, and surgical care. The company serves hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, ambulatory surgery centers, doctors' offices, and home healthcare settings worldwide.

With a global workforce of 38,000 employees as of December 2024 and operations spanning the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, Baxter reported 2024 revenue of $10.636 billion from continuing operations. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BAX with a market capitalization of approximately $15 billion. Baxter's pioneering legacy includes introducing the first commercially prepared intravenous solutions in 1931, the first commercially-built kidney dialysis system in 1956, and continuous innovation in critical care technologies.

Baxter operates through three primary business segments: Medical Products and Therapies (which includes Advanced Surgery and Infusion Therapies divisions), Healthcare Systems and Technologies (encompassing Front Line Care, Digital Platform and Innovations, Care and Connectivity Solutions, and Global Services), and Pharmaceuticals. The company's product portfolio includes sterile IV solutions, infusion systems, parenteral nutrition therapies, inhaled anesthetics, advanced surgical equipment, and digital health solutions.

In recent years, Baxter has undergone significant strategic transformation, divesting its kidney care business (Vantive) to Carlyle Group for $3.8 billion in January 2025 and selling its biopharma solutions business for $4.25 billion in 2023. These strategic moves have allowed the company to sharpen its focus on core medical products and hospital-focused offerings. In July 2025, Baxter announced the appointment of Andrew Hider as president and CEO, effective September 2025, to lead the company's next phase of growth and operational excellence.
